Spider Vein Removal

Spider Vein Removal is a procedure that is designed to get rid of those tiny red or blue lines that can occur on the legs, face, neck, chest or other areas. Spider veins fall into a category called "vascular legions". Vascular lesions include a range of conditions. Whether it be leg veins, facial veins, angiomas, venous lakes or rosacea -  laser and light-based devices have become a viable treatment option to safely and effectively remove and diminish unwanted vascular concerns.

While spider veins are generally nothing more than a cosmetic problem, they can also be a visible warning sign of a more serious medical condition. Generally speaking, spider veins become more prominent as you age - for a variety of reasons. It's always important to have new vein structure evaluated to make sure that everything looks normal.

You are more likely to get spider veins if you have:

  • a family history of spider veins or varicose veins.
  • a job where you stand on your feet all day. Medical staff and sales associates are particularly prone.
  • a condition that places extra pressure on your vascular system.
  • thin skin
  • changing hormone issues
  • inflammatory disease
  • blood pressure variations

Frequently Asked Questions

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR A CUTERA LASER TREATMENT? Our Laser features a unique design with a long wavelength that allows for the treatment of patients of all skin tones. Our staff will advise you if Cutera Laser Vein Therapy is right for you.

WHAT KINDS OF VEINS CAN BE TREATED WITH EXCEL V+  Our laser can remove unwanted spider veins from all areas of the body. Small facial veins (or “telangiectasia”) are  treated quickly without causing bruising. Spider veins and larger blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates and generally require a special form of laser to eliminate. A careful evaluation with our staff will help you determine which vessels can be treated with the Excel V+.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LASER AND SCLEROTHERAPHY?  Sclerotherapy uses a set of injections that can be painful. The laser does not require injections.

WHAT ABOUT BLOOD BLISTERS & PORT WINE STAINS?  “Hemangiomas”, also known as blood blisters, respond very well to our laser treatment, usually with just one session. We have known patients with port wine stains (a type of vascular lesion) who were overwhelmed by the success of their laser vascular treatment after they had already given up on change.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE USUALLY NEEDED?  Many times, one or two treatments will do the trick. Sometimes there are limitations based on the size of the vein. During your consultation, we can usually give you a great idea of what it will take to reach success.

DOES THE LASER TREATMENT HURT?  You'll likely feel a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered to the area - similar to a rubber band snap. No general anesthesia is used, but we'll give you instruction on how to prepare ahead of time.  Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
